Goodwood Spring Challenge

No! Not "Scott of the Antartic", but the sight of 12th Chichester Scouts set up ready for catering for the Goodwood Spring Challenge Mountain Bike event on Sunday 6th April.

Although the Saturday was too blustery to put up the green fly sheet (commonly known as the "Elvis Fly"), Sunday morning (07:00) was overcast but with absolutely no wind. We erected the fly sheet successfully and the BBQ was going nicely when all of a sudden, in came the driving snow from the north. We did manage to sell a few bacon butties and some warming cups of coffee, but the chilled drinks and the burgers never got out of their packets.

By 9:30am, having heard from Sussex Police that there were numerous accidents and the snow was not relenting, the organisers decided to postpone the event for a future date. So we then had to set about packing it all up, taking the tents down then laying everything out in the hut to dry out - this is going to take some time!

Fortunately most the food we bought will be frozen until either Spring Bank Holiday Camp or Children's Day.

Long Live the British Weather!
